About Us

Indranarayanpur Nazrul Smriti Sangha is a Non Governmental Organization which was founded on 2nd October 1978, by a group of dedicated local youths, inspired by the rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. INSS very first interaction with the local problems came in the form of the 1978 floods during which the organization played a major role in providing relief and rescue to the affected population. The organization was formally registered in 1981 under societies registration act. Since then INSS has gradually shifted its focus from a relief & charity based mode to a more integrated development approach emphasizing basically on disaster preparedness and rehabilitation.

Located as it is, in the Sundarban delta region, the biggest challenge faced by INSS is that of securing a life of economic self-sustenance for the poor in a perennially disaster prone area. Severe soil erosion; poor agriculture scenario; high salinity of water; low accessibility to potable water; high incidence of migration; poor health; trafficking in woman and children; high incidence of child labour; and illiteracy are but a few of the many hurdles faced by INSS, in its efforts to achieve its goal to uplift the poorest of the poor.

Mission

INSS shall strive to provide meaningful opportunities for social and economic development of the poor and deprived sections of the society, working towards a sustained growth to improve the standard of lives of the target communities. INSS shall give preference to Empowerment, Entitlement and Equity of women, children and other differentially vulnerable groups.
